The countdown is on! I am within the 90-day mark of finishing another decade here on earth! My boys keep suggesting things that I should consider for a "mid-life" crisis. It's funny that all their suggestions benefit them in a great way!

One of the things I do is reflect at the end of every year on what I have learned, accomplished, and experienced in the past year. I remember turning 30: I reflected on my 20's and made decisions on what I felt God would have me change, or grow in, in the next decade.

Well, here we are! I find myself hitting "Replay" on the last decade reflecting on if I lived into the things that God put on my heart. As a whole I would say I did, but there are definitely some areas I wish I could have a "redo" on. What I have found is the enemy loves to beat the tar out of you over the "redo's" to keep you distracted from the wins!

As I lay out my goals for the next decade ...

We just wrapped up the 2009 Journey Church staff Christmas party here at the house. We had some Iron Starr Barbeque, hot apple cider, desserts, and even went Christmas Caroling! As the evening went on I could think only one thing - I am so blessed with the people I get to work with everyday!!!

What makes them so great?

  • Their pursuit of Christ!!!
  • Their pursuit of the lost!!
  • Their generosity!
  • Their humility!
  • Their confidence!
  • The way they are planted in the house!
  • The way they love on others!
  • The way they love each other!
The list could go on forever, but the bottomline is that I am blessed! I look forward to doing life with such a great team! And I look forward to Sarah and Jennifer joining the team in January! We are honoring G ... Read More »

It was my Sr. year in HS in 1988. There was a new place in town that everyone loved to eat at by the name of "Spaghetti Warehouse". Everyone once in a while a group of friends and I would head down to the abandoned part of downtown to eat some spaghetti.

And now here we are!

Today it looks at though the MAPS 3 sales tax will pass by a good margin! The tax will continue to increase the quality of life for all those that live around the OKC area. We'll see some of the coolest things take place right here in our city!

What's amazing? It's been in the works for years! Yes, it has evolved over time, but the business community has worked with the local government to create something spectacular. The result: One of the strongest economies in the nation! That is the power of vision and partnership!

WOW! I have been back from Haiti now for 4 days and my mind is still running from all I experienced! I can't say enough how much I enjoyed traveling with my son, Caleb, and with Adam, Landon, Timmy, and Otis (from Mission of Hope). I am truly blessed to work with an amazing team and loved hanging out with some of them.

On Sunday, December 20, we'll be doing something we have never done before! Through video, we'll be taking you to Haiti to give you a taste of what it will be like when you actually go there. It will be like nothing we have ever done before.

A few things:

  • I love the Haitian people!
  • I was blown away by the level of poverty!
  • Some guy offered to kill a goat and cook it for us! Kind of a creepy thought!
  • People's hope in God was not tied to materialism!
  • Really good lobster is only $5!

Yesterday we took a look at some prayers for dealing with fear. Today let’s take a look at Talking About Peace! First, the enemy will use fear to begin to mess with our lives and the next thing you know we spend most of our time worrying about the possibilities.

Here are some prayers for peace:

You will keep me in perfect peace, because my mind is stayed on You,
Lord
- Isaiah 26:3.

I will not worry about anything, but I will pray about everything and thank God He hears me. I cast all care on the Lord because He cares for me, and I let the peace of God which passes all understanding keep my heart and mind in Christ Jesus - 1 Peter 5:7; Philippians 4:6, 7.

I thi ...

Have you ever noticed that you really didn’t have much fear until you started “knowing better”? It really is interesting that the older you get, the more the enemy can captivate your heart with fear and worry. You can simply walk into Starbuck’s, not even try to ease drop, and find out all the fears of those around you.

Today let’s take a look at how we respond to fear with what we say. Here are some thoughts:

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
- Psalm 27:1.

I will be strong and of good courage. I will not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord my God is with me wherever I go.
- Joshua 1:9.

Okay, if you have children, you have to admit there are times when it is easy to allow something to come from your mouth out of frustration. Anybody out there? Today let’s look at some things we can confess over our kids that are found as scriptural promises. Here are some scriptures structured in a way that they are prayers over our children.

All of my children are taught of the Lord, and great is their peace - Isaiah 54:13.

God said His Spirit that is upon me and His words which He has put in my mouth, will not depart out of my mouth, nor out of the mouth of my see, nor out of the mouth of my seed's seed. -Isaiah 59:21.

My seed shall be mighty upon the earth. The generation of the upright shall be blessed. -Psalm 112:2.
