Isn't funny how excited we get when we think we might receive something for free! We stand in line, we make the call, we log on—we get pumped about getting free stuff! We love giveaways! But here is the question: do you love giving it away?
Proverbs 11:25 says, "A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed."
My observation is that most people feel like they are too broke to "give it away". I know I have been there before, but then the Lord began to challenge me about all I have to give away.
Maybe you don't have any margin financially right now, so give away your time. Maybe you don't have any margin in your schedule, then give away some money. Maybe you don't have either, then give away some encouragement.
We all have something we can give away!!! God has put somebody in your life today that needs something you have, so give it away! A generous ma ...

One of the issues in my life that the Lord has really been speaking to me about is culture. Most of us have always looked at culture as something around us, when in reality culture is where we are, it is every we go. You have a culture at home, a culture at work, at culture at church, a culture in your community, a culture in your state, a culture in your nation, etc.... You get the picture. Culture happens!
The problem is that most of us are not intentional about the culture that we are creating in all those places. Now, some of you will be tempted to whine here and say that you have no influence - that is bull! Remember to put on your big boy pants, realize that you have influence everywhere you go, and be intentional about the culture your creating.
If you don't like work, change the culture. If you don't like school, change the culture. If you don't like being at home, change the culture.

Every once in a while I will go through a season in life that it would be easy to get down about. I know that might surprise you that as a pastor I might get down, but sometimes it is tempting. Usually it is when I am tired, something hasn't gone perfect, or I didn't meet expectations I set out for myself. Sometimes it might even be that someone criticizes me and I internalize it.
Here is the bottom line: I need to put on my big boy pants and get over it!!!
And so do YOU!!!
Yes, sometimes life is unfair. Yes, sometimes you make stupid decisions that embarrass you. Yes, sometimes your spouse will disappoint you. (Mine never does - I love you sweetheart) Yes, people will criticize you. Yes, sometimes life sucks. (I hate using that word, but it really does fit here)
Again, the bottom line: Get over it and put on your big boy pants!!!
Tomorrow is a new day, so wake up in the morn ...

I love how one of my friends, Steven Furtick, says, "Yes, we are all about the numbers!" So many times in the church world "talking numbers" is bad. The problem with that is that numbers represent people! They represent life change! So let me brag a little, on what GOD has done, here at Journey so far this year!
- Over 500 people have committed their lives to Christ!
- 109 people have be baptized!
- There have been over 275 families visit our church!
- There are over 2,500 people reading the New Testament!
- There have been 185 people go through Journey Leadership Institute!
- Our North Campus children's attendance is up over 50%!
- There are over 100 people going to serve in Haiti this year!
And that just get ...

Over the past several months I have read several books that have messed with me in a great way. Here is the list:
- How the Might Fall - UNBELIEVABLE!!! I just wanted to curl up in a corner and cry it hurt so bad! Led me to a place of brokenness and truth. Caution - It will hurt!
- Innovate the Pixar Way - This really challenged me on what kind of culture I'm creating for the people who work for me, and the people who call Journey home.
- Rework - Simple book on leadership that is well written, an easy read, and full of truth about today! Confirmed to me how much leadership has changed in the past 8 years! It is a whole new world!
- Linchpin - By far this is Seth Godin's best book, in my humble, but accurate, opinion. Describes what it takes to succeed in today's world better than any other book.
- The Bible - By far my favorite! No, I am not trying to be uber spir ...

I want to spend a little time today bragging on a friend who is right in the middle of a move of God!
Over the past several years I have had the honor of getting to know Herbert Cooper, Sr. Pastor of People's Church in North OKC. Throughout our friendship I have had the opportunity to watch grow into his God-given potential and dreams. I've seen him humbly embrace a move of God that is one of the most unique movements in our country!
The short story is this: Herbert, and his wife Tiffany, planted People's Church 8 years ago. Throughout the years they have always grown and then they moved into a new auditorium a few months ago. Since then, People's has grown by approximately 2,000 people, and hundreds of people have given their lives to Christ!
The key elements that I have seen atRead More »

Growing up I always heard the saying, "we are cutting it to the core". Well, great! What in the world really is core to you?
That's a question I have asked myself a lot lately about my life and the ministry of Journey Church. Why in the world do I pastor a church? Why did I move to Norman? What is at the core?
My answer: The most precious generation to walk on the face of the planet Earth! A generation of, at least, 72 million, that at this rate, only 4% of them are going to heaven!
Quick math: That is 69,120,000 people in one generation, in the USA alone, that are heading to (read it big) HELL!!! Yes, the firey place where there is weeping, and nashing of teeth, and absolutely no hope! One more time - 69,120,000 people in one generation going to HELL!
The love for a generation is as my core! And I want to reach them, equip them, empower them, and watch them live into their God-given potenti ...

I was recently gave some suggestions to someone, and their response was, "I hate the idea of copying them"! Wow! I get that! It feels so good to be the expert, the best, the top of the world! But reality check - in most areas I'm not!!! So what do I need to do? I need to learn from others & copy them!!!
I'll never be an expert web programmer.
I'll never be an expert builder.
I'll never be an expert accountant.
I'll never be an expert chef.
I will be an expert copier!!!
I love the areas that God has gifted & anointed me, I am blessed! For all other areas, I will copy like crazy! The only reason I wouldn't is pride & I'm pretty sure pride comes before the fall!
Who are you copying!

Wow! What a weekend! I can not say enough how thankful I am for what God is doing through Journey Church! Here are a few thoughts & facts:
- Over 150 people made significant decisions about the relationship with Christ this past weekend!!!
- Over 2,500 people committed to reading through the New Testament in 40 days!
- Over 1000 people attended the East Campus Easter Egg Hunt Saturday! Last year they had 300.
- Our total attendance was right around the 5,500 mark for the weekend! That truly is miraculous!
- It was a blast to have an overflow room because of the crowds!
- YOU were incredible serving! You took care of over 1,000 children, you greeted thousands of people, you directed thousands of cars, and lives were changed because of it!
- The Production team blew my mind! The opening video was the best I've e ...
